Dialogue

For this project, we had to sync the animation to short audio clip.  The body had to be moving as well as the face.  The process involved many layers for the individual movements.  I started with torso, arms, head, then hair, then mouth, and finally eyes/nose/eyebrows.  I filmed separate reference footage for the body movement and the face movement.  On paper, I planned the mouth poses so I could reference it later.  These are syllable's from the first 8 words: This is the final animation.

Walk Cycle

This project was about practicing a walk cycle and also giving the character a personality.  The background was put on a peg so I could animate the character in place.  It took a few tries of changing the background length so the character would not look like they were sliding as much.

Lifting Weight

This project was to practice animating a character struggling to lift something.  I had the character try to pick up a carrot so the weight they are combating is the roots stuck in the ground.  Filming a reference was very helpful in making the weight shift in the right places.  Although, it did hurt a little to fall multiple times.  If I were to redo this, I would add specks of soil flying away as well.

Animation Exercises

These exercises were to practice arcs, squash/stretch, overlapping action, and character movement.  Every time I started a project, I had to re-download Harmony from online.  You have to be careful when skipping a few frames so that you don't accidentally fill in the space with the previous frames.  Although sometimes that can be helpful.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Mel. I’m a senior at USF.  I have experience with digital modeling, digital sculpting, storyboarding, and have worked with after effects and sound design for a 2 minute film in a selected topics class.  I hope to get more foundational knowledge about 2d animation since I was often confused during my selected topics animation class and wished I could have helped my production team more.  I hope to become more confident with my skill level to prepare for the professional industry.   FAQ You: What is your favorite animation that also low key makes you anxious? Me: The Sesame Street Pin Ball Numbers Counting Video.
